[As had become something of a routine, Alfonse had offered to take his new recovering friend for a walk around the area. Usually it was just around Terncliff, or some of the ruined villages just outside the town. The war and plague had left many such places that he and his siblings had explored as children, and while such adventures were now beneath him, it still made something interesting to show his friend on their walks.

Today though, he thought to have something of a surprise for him. Weather had kept their normal walks short, and he could see the other getting irritable and restless, so he planned to take him to the remains of the old research facility built into the cliffside. Alfonse had been inquiring about it, and after his rampage as the Diamond Weapon, it seems to have at least been stabilized and somewhat cleaned up. The loading docks that had been built out front was the main goal though, a chance to sit by the ocean have a chat and something eat, but the ruined facility would be an interesting visit It the weather turned sour… which the overcast skies above seemed to threaten.

And so, with the convenient privileges allotted to him due to his father and his status as a former pilot, he input the codes to the lift that would bring them to the docks of the facility. However, upon looking over at his friend, he noticed he seemed to be hesitant?

Hesitant and quite scowly. Hmm… well he supposed the lift was offensively Garlean in its appearance, he doubted Sidguru had much experience with the technology having spent much of his life in Coerthas.

So it was all he could do to offer a smile and maybe a little chuckle at the wariness.]

It’s just a regular lift, Sid. I promise, despite its ominous Garlean origins, it’s not going to abscond with us and try to conquer Eorzea. I promise.

AFTER 84 YEARS...

[If there was one thing that Sid was an overabundance of, it was absolutely being hesitant and scowly. Scowly about leaving Ishgard, even though Terncliff has so far been a far nicer and far safer place for he and Rielle to live since their arrival. Scowly about going down into some Fury forsaken Garlean facility that had, apparently, once housed massive, deadly machina, that could have very well destroyed the whole of Eorzea.]

[...but he still came down, even after voicing his reluctance. Alfonse swears the place is safe, and honestly, after everything that he and his family have done for Sid and Rielle now, what reason does he have to distrust the younger man? More than that, how can he say no when Alfonse makes the offer to visit it together so eagerly?]

[He can't, that's how. Not when it would be like saying no to an over-eager puppy, and when the thought of spending some quiet moments alone with the other man was appealing all on its own. Nevermind that with his arm still in a sling and other injuries still tender, he's been itching to get out and do...something, anything.]

[Didn't mean the grumbling was going to stop though, sorry not sorry Al.]

You know that saying it like that feels even less reassuring than the first time you asked, aye?

[So much grumbling. But that's what happens when he's nervous and uncertain; his mouth works faster than his brain even more so than it normally does, tail jerking in quick, anxious little movements as his listens to the lift rumbling up to meet them from below.]

What happens if it breaks? I know machinery is prone to breaking as it is- [OR SO HANDFUL OF PEOPLE HAVE TOLD HIS TECH-ILLITERATE ASS] -and you said this place had seen fighting not long ago.

I used to ride this lift nearly every day, and it never so much as stalled. But if you’re worried-

[He was rather poor at hiding the amusement he found in Sidguru’s scowling and huffing, but at least he did make an effort. While the playful teasing Sidguru often got from others was well deserved (and despite the grumbling he knew Sidguru loved it), he also got the feeling his Xaela friend might appreciate being taken seriously every once and a while. As a treat… and he likes to see if he could get Sidguru to make any expression outside of a scowl on occasion.

So Alfonse pried open a panel to reveal a little console and started up a little self diagnostic.]

It should still be fine, but even if something like a malfunction does happen, there are failsafes to lock the lift into place, in which case I could probably just repair it myself- but running a little diagnostic wouldn’t hurt.

[And while that was running Alfonse turned back to Sid and gently took his hand to tug him into the lift, sporting a bright smile. He… might be looking forward to this despite it being mostly for Sidguru.]

Now at least step in! The lift itself has seen no combat whatsoever, I can promise you that. I was there both times fighting broke out. The first took place entirely outside the facility, and the second… was my doing believe it or not.

[He hadn’t exactly been making any attempts to hide what they’d gone through, he’d ever been as open as possible when speaking about it. However, there were some things that just didn’t tend to make it into conversation. Sid knew he was a pilot that went rogue, but not the extent of it. Not that the Weapons he’s no doubt heard whispers about were what he and his siblings had piloted.

He took a look outside the glass window of the lift, at the Diamond Weapon-sized hole in the front of the facility. He was probably going to have to some explaining to do with that last statement, but Sidguru was going to have to ride the lift first.]

The remnants of the Sapphire weapon should still be in the facility too. It’s been torn to pieces from the efforts rescuing the pilot, but it’s still interesting to look at.

[The panel dings and Alfonse takes a look.]
